The Amsterdam has some distinct advantages compared to other pour over coffee makers:

1. Removable glass top allows you to keep your coffee grinds soaked in the water at the ideal temperate (around 190 F), and doesn't cool down. That ideal temperature gives a more complete flavor extraction from the grinds. Easily remove the top that contains the filter and pour your coffee out through the bottom carafe.

2. The filter is a double layered filter that is coarse enough to allow more coffee oils to pour into your brew, yet keep the grinds out of your cup.

3. Flexible: With this unique filter you can use fine, medium, or coarse grinds. Each will flow differently and give you a different flavor profile. Fine will flow very slowly and will require regular stirring. Coarse will flow the fastest and will give you a lower extraction level.

4. No paper filters required: Save yourself money as you will not need to keep buying expensive replacement paper filters every time you brew your coffee.

We like to use 22 grams of beans for a 12 oz cup. Grind it medium, and then add it back into the filter to brew. When the grinds are in the filter, first add a little water to wet the grinds to "wake them up", and wait about a minute. That is called blooming the coffee. You will notice the coffee will begin to swell up as it absorbs water. Then use your pour over kettle to add water in a circular fashion to brew the coffee.

Once your pour over coffee is ready, you can simply pour it into your cup from the bottom carafe. You can also place the carafe on a tea light warmer to keep your coffee warm. The borosilicate glass is safe for use with a candle light style warmer. Be careful NOT to use it on a stove top or high flame as that can make the rubber grip catch fire.
